About Crockett Middle School
Crockett Middle School’s mission is to make it possible for every student to achieve to the best of his/her ability. Our mission is accomplished each day through the collaborative efforts of an outstanding school staff, a talented group of parent volunteers and an active PTA. We understand the importance of providing a comprehensive academic program utilizing developmentally appropriate practices and creating a warm, accepting and safe school environment. This is a school where all students can develop to their fullest potential.
Crockett is divided into three grades, which are housed within the A and B house campus. Each grade consists of core curricular teachers, counselors, and an administrator. The sixth graders have classes in the A and B house with the seventh grade core subjects held in the A house and the 8th grade classes are held in the B house campus. A staff of about 100 professionals provides a team approach in offering an exciting program for our students.
Sixth and seventh grade students have schedules that include a variety of subjects. Both grades receive instruction in ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Health, and cycle courses that address the Common Core Curriculum Standards. Eighth graders have core subjects with the choice of an elective class of Spanish, Family and Consumer Science, Art, Band, Strings, Vocal Music or Technology.
An extensive staff development program has resulted in the use of exemplary teaching practices in our classrooms. Teachers are well trained in instructional theory, learning styles, differentiated instruction that utilizes smart board technology, thinking skills, cooperative learning and classroom management. Staff members have developed individual websites and parent e-mail distribution lists, and participate in a positive parent referral program. The staff consists of professionals who are well prepared and committed to meet the academic as well as the social and emotional needs of middle level students, as well as improving parental involvement.
Exceptional student achievement and performance are a direct result of the teaching strategies that embrace data driven instruction and the Danielson Evaluation System. The staff continually utilizes Study Island and I-ready benchmark tests to evaluate student performance and adjust instruction. The Power School on line grading system is utilized allowing the parents to access their child’s grades in all subjects at any time. Many incentives are provided by the administration, teaching staff, PTA and community to encourage and increase student performance and raise students self esteem.
As a result, Crockett students are annually recognized for their participation in activities such as Student Council, Johns Hopkins Talent Search, Sigma, Math Counts, Excellence Through Education Merit Awards Program, Teen Arts, “Fire Is” Program, NJ Seeds, PTA Family Fun Night, Respect Week, Reading Buddies, Letters to Soldiers, School Production, Willow Tree Teen Educational Leadership Program, Student Publishing, School Newspaper, Yearbook, Power To Learn, Bully Free Friends, Strings/Vocal Holiday Concert at local nursing homes, and many community service programs which provide assistance to those in need.
Crockett students are also busy during their lunch time. Students voluntarily give up their lunch period to participate in groups such as our Willow Tree club, BFF (Bully Free Friends) club, school newspaper or yearbook. As part of our follow-up to Rachel’s Challenge, a character education program that encourages the “chain reaction of kindness”, students participate in activities that encourage kindness towards others.
