Degrees and Certifications:
B.A. in Sociology Douglass College-Rutgers University NJ Certificate: Teacher of Spanish (K-12)
Mrs. Rosita Santiago Peters
I have been teaching Spanish at Hamilton High School West since 1996. I am now entering my 25th year. I have taught all levels of Spanish from Intro to Spanish to AP Spanish 5. Currently, I teach levels 1, 2, and 3. I enjoy sharing the Spanish language and culture with the students in my classes and have had the opportunity to lead several students on wonderful adventures around the world to Puerto Rico, Spain, France, Morrocco, Costa Rica, Panama and Italy.
During my career at West, I have served as the Advisor of different clubs/activities such as the International Club, the Interact Club, and the Color Guard. Upon the retirement of Mrs. Roberta Schectel and Mr. James Peters, I became the Advisor of the Spanish National Honor Society, which recognizes students who have attained a high academic average and demonstrated a true interest in the study of the Spanish language. In 2002, I established the Hamilton West Spanish Club, which has become the most active club in the school community. From the Spanish Club, the Sabor Latino dance group was created. Each year, since 2003, I supervise a group of students who gather to learn dance routines that feature hispanic dances such as bachata, merengue, salsa and reggaeton for the Hamilton's Got Talent talent show. In 2016, I became the Advisor of the Dance/Step Team, also known as the Diamondz. The team performs at pep rallies, football games, basketball games and at the annual Black History Month Program.
I am married to Mr. James Peters, a former Hamilton West teacher of Spanish, French, and Italian as well as World Language Dept. Chairperson. I am the proud mother of three children. I love to travel (especially to Puerto Rico) and spend time with my family.
