3/20/20 - Friday: Begin reading, When Dogs Fly: A cool story about a dog named Jager (yay-ger) with his own sport in Dock Dogs! Read up to page 7.
Discuss: What happened on pg. 7 when Jager went to the park? Tell a family member. : ) *On the weekend, you can spend some time with your lending library book!
3/23 - Continue reading When Dogs Fly, pgs. 8- 12 Contest 1: Big Air. What does Jager have to do in Contest 1? and if you can, read Contest 2: Speed Retrieve. What does retrieve mean? (to bring back) Which contest sounds harder to win?
3/24 - Continue reading When Dogs Fly, pgs 16- 21 Contest 3: Extreme Vertical. What does verticle mean? (moving straight up or down) Do you think Jager is having fun? How do you know? Find the evidence in the story.
3/25 - Continue reading When Dogs Fly. Read the ending of the story, Top Dog and the inside back cover. Why does Jager's family take him to Dock Dog's events? Find the evidence in the story.
Write the question and answer on lined paper. Write the Title of the story on the top of your paper. Use your neatest hand writing. Remember to use CUPS: Capital letters, Understanding - does it make sense? Punctuation and Spelling. : ) Save your paper in your packet.

The main character's name is Juniper. She is allergic to many things. She is helping her friend Lan clean an old book store after hours to open a new computer shop. Juniper gets the creeps about being in the old shop in the evening!

4/13 - Take a look at a new story, Chester Greenwood's Big Idea, Non Fiction. A boy named Chester lived in the state of Maine. The story takes place in a very cold winter setting. Look at the Glossary in the back of the book. Read Chapter 1 to find out what problem Chester was having. : 0
4/14 - Continue Chester Greenwood's Big Idea. What was Chester's problem? Today, read chapters 2, Chester's Plan and (if you can) 3, A New Idea. Make a prediction about what will happen next. Share with someone else.
4/15 - Finish reading the story. Chester Greenwood's Big Idea. Chapter 4. What happened when Chester wore his earmuffs for the first time? Did it bother him? What does this tell you about Chester's character? Please answer this question in writing. Tell why you feel this way and explain. Save your paper in your packet until we can share together. : )

Today: 4/20 - Happy Monday: Today you have a choice between two books. 1. The Pirates (from the first packet-easier to read). Sam and Jesse want to be pirates for a day! Or choose Euginie Clark Shark Lady. This is a Biography of a scientist who studies sharks! A biography tells about a person's life. Look through the pictures. Why do you think she is called Shark Lady? Begin reading to findout. Keep reading the story up to at least chapter 3. Then share what you learned with someone else!

4/30 - Today we will begin the last story in the packet: The Coldest Town on Earth; A Non Fiction text Imagine a place where winter lasts almost all year and it is so cold that Thermometers freeze and crack! This is the town of Oymyakon (OY-me-a-kon) in Russia. It is mostly covered in snow and ice! Read the back cover of the book and look through the pictures. Begin reading Chapter 1 to find out just how people can live in this area.

This week, I would like you to write about what it would be like to live in Oymyakon, the coldest town on earth. How would you protect yourself? What jobs would you have to do? Use evidence from the story and/or questions from above in 5/5 - 5/8. Add some true facts or information. Also what might kids do for fun? Then add your own drawing of yourself in that environment. Have fun! For Fun: Try looking up Oymyakon, Russia on the internet!

5/19 - 5/21 - Begin reading the story, Animals Feel Emotion: Do you believe animals feel emotions? The author of this story does.
