    Course Description and Proficiencies

    1. COURSE TITLE:  SUSTAINABLE ENGINEERING AND DESIGN
    2. LENGTH OF COURSE: 180 days, full year – 40 minute periods
    3. PERIODS SCHEDULED PER WEEK: 5
    4. SUMMARY OF COURSE:

    Building upon what was learned in Technology, Engineering & Social Responsibility, students will conduct a deeper study of each area of the designed world through corresponding units. Each unit will cover multiple technological products and systems used to solve various engineering problems in the past, present and future, providing a context for exploring major engineering disciplines, other STEM-related occupations, and the higher-education pathways leading to them. In each unit, students will encounter new tools, materials, machines and STEM-related knowledge that they must use to identify and analyze both natural and human-made problems, evaluate risks and examine alternative solutions for resolving or preventing them with social responsibility in mind.

    • Website Design
    • Catapult Project
    • Airboat Project

    1. The students will be assessed in the following manner:
    • Summative: Constructed Projects 50%
    • Formative: Class work-Documentation 40%
    • Individual: Class participation 10%

    Class Rules:

    Dear Parent,

     

    I would like to take some time to introduce myself as your child’s teacher in this upcoming school year.  My name is Mr. Chis-Luca and I will offer a very challenging and rewarding experience for your child. With your encouragement, your child will develop many new skills and problem solving techniques.  

     

    Since lifelong success depends in part on learning to make responsible choices, I have developed a classroom discipline plan, which guides every student to make good decisions about his or her behavior.  Your child deserves the most positive educational climate possible for his/her growth, and I know that together we will make a difference in this process. The plan below outlines my rules, and consequences for inappropriate behavior.  They are as follows:

     

    1. Be on time
    2. Follow directions
    3. Stay on task
    4. Cell Phones
    5. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself
    6. No yelling or screaming
    7. Bring all appropriate materials to class
    8. No swearing or teasing.

     

    Consequences:

    If a student chooses to break a rule, however, the following steps will be taken:

     

    First time a student breaks a rule: Warning

    Second time: Discuss the problem with the student

    Third time: Call home to address the problem

    Fourth time: Call home to set up detention 

    Fifth time: Alert Administration

     

    Severe Disruption: Alert Administration
