Summer is almost here, and students will be eager to put their textbooks away for a while. Enjoy time for summer fun, but don't let your child give up on his/her reading and math skills! Avoid the "summer slide" (students can lose up to three months of reading achievement and math skills)!
Here are some things you can do:
- SAVE MONEY and become a member of the Hamilton Township Public Library. Six books is all children need to read to prevent the summer slide! The Children's Library is full of engaging books, and the librarians are helpful when trying to locate books appropriate for your child's reading level. The library has a selection of bilingual books, too!
- SHARPEN MATH FACTS and have fun while practicing! Use flash cards, computer games, or Internet sites. (The library has computers for your use.) With your help and encouragement, your child will return to school feelling confident and ready.
- HAVE FUN WITH SCIENCE Visit www.kitchenpantryscientist.com (copy and paste to your browser) for fun, simple science and STEAM activities!
- MAKE TIME FOR CULTURAL EXPERIENCES in your summer fun plans! The Hamilton Township Public Library has a Museum Pass Program, offering more than 30 indoor and outdoor experiences for FREE! Check their website for instructions on how to participate https//hamiltonnjpl.org/reserve-a-museum-pass/ or call 609-581-4060 x4001.
